Terrorism
The IRA:
Name: Irish Republican Army
Location: The Republic of Ireland
History: The IRA draws its roots from similar groups formed around the 1860's. The group's goal has always remained the same: secure Ireland's independence from Great Britain. Their methods at first were protests with occasional showings of force. During the first World War, Irish citizens refused to join the British war effort. Over the years, the group became increasingly hostile. Around 1916, the IRA asked Germany to send weapons. At the last minute, Britain discovered their plans and had the ship transporting the weapons destroyed. This angered the IRA, who openly protested in the streets of Dublin. It was around this time that the various groups united under the single moniker "IRA". Since then, the IRA has held mass demonstrations, violent attacks, and acts of terrorism against the British crown. Recently, the group has been rapidly failing.
Member Numbers: 10,000 over the last 30 years.
Goals: To secure the independence of Ireland from British influence. Recently, now that Ireland is a sovereign republic, the goals have changed to popularizing the Irish way of life.
Recent Activity: A splinter group of the IRA recently claimed it would attack several banking organizations in England. The attacks have yet to happen, and most likely never will.
